Exxon Mobil (XOM) is in talks with Tesla (TSLA), Ford Motor (F), Volkswagen (VWAGY) and other automakers about supplying them with lithium as the company seeks to build a business around the battery component, Ari Natter, Yvonne Yue Li and Joe Deaux of Bloomberg reports, citing people familiar with the matter. The talks are in the early stages and also include Samsung and SK On Co., sources told Bloomberg.
