Evolv’s AI gun detectors frequently report false positives, Verge reports

The AI gun detectors from Evolv that New York City Mayor Eric Adams installed in subway stations last week haven’t always worked as intended, as the same Evolv scanners installed at a Bronx hospital in 2022 frequently reported false positives, The Verge’s Gaby Del Valle reports, citing public records obtained by Hell Gate. In the seven months that the scanners were active, 50,000 of the 194,000 recorded scans resulted in a positive alarm, 85% of which were false positives, the author says, noting that most of the real positives were triggered by police officers.
