Microsoft’s (MSFT) $13B investment in ChatGPT maker OpenAI could be the target of an EU antitrust probe as regulators are working on making such a move, Reuters’ Foo Yun Chee reports, citing people familiar with the matter. The software and technology giant’s partnership with OpenAI, together with those between Alphabet (GOOG), Amazon (AMZN), and Anthropic, are being scrutinized both in the U.S. and Europe as regulators aim to understand how such deals impact competition, the author says, noting that the EU’s antitrust regulator has opted not to investigate the partnership under EU merger rules, though there still could be an antitrust review.
