Back in September, the Labor Department’s Occupational Safety and Health Administration, OSHA, unit widened the scope of its Severe Violator Enforcement Program, which targets companies with unsafe working conditions, to include any company that willfully or repeatedly violated safety standards, and the first company added after this expansion was Dollar General, Michael Corkey of The New York Times reports. Since January 2017, OSHA has inspected more than 270 Dollar Generals and found 111 instances of work safety violations, leading the agency to impose more than $15.5M in penalties during that period. Typical issues included obstructed fire exits and boxes of merchandise cluttering aisles or stacked too high. In some cases, federal inspectors have demanded the hazard be fixed, but will still be present at a follow-up visit, two federal officials told the Times. Reference Link
