CNN, which is owned by Warner Bros. Discovery (WBD), will begin experimenting early next month with charging some readers for digital access as part of an effort to bolster its business, The New York Times’ Benjamin Mullin reports, citing two people with knowledge of the decision. CNN is planning to launch a metered model, which will require users to pay after reading a certain number of articles, the people say. The New York Times (NYT) and The New Yorker, have used metered paywalls to generate subscriptions over the past decade. The starting price of CNN’s subscription is unclear, but the people believe CNN would begin with an inexpensive offering in order to gauge demand.
