DreamWorks Animation and Comcast (CMCSA) subsidiary Universal’s “The Wild Robot” won this weekend at the North American box office with a $35M debut. The movie earned an A CinemaScore from moviegoers and sports a 98% Rotten Tomatoes critic score. Meanwhile, Francis Ford Coppola’s “Megalopolis” placed number 6 with a disappointing debut. The movie earned just $4M and received a D+ CinemaScore from audiences.
BOX OFFICE RUNNER-UPS: Warner Bros.’ (WBD) “Beetlejuice Beetlejuice” placed number 2 with $16M for a domestic cume of $258.1M and a global tally of $373.3M. Behind it was Paramount (PARA) and Hasbro Entertainment’s “Transformers One” with an estimated $9.3M for a 10-day domestic cume of $39.2M. The Indian Telugu-language action movie “Devara: Part 1” placed 4 with $5.5M. Rounding out the top five, Comcast subsidiary Universal’s “Speak No Evil” grossed an estimated $4.3M.
