"Box Office Battle" is The Fly’s weekly roundup of what movies topped the weekend’s box office.
Comcast (CMCSA) subsidiary Universal’s “Knock at the Cabin” won this weekend at the North American box office with a $14.2M debut. The psychological-tinged horror pic received a C CinemaScore and had the lowest North American opening of any movie by M. Night Shyamalan. Overseas, “Knock at the Cabin” grossed an estimated $7M for a global total of $21.2M.
BOX OFFICE RUNNER-UPS: Paramount’s (PARA) “80 for Brady” opened in second place with $12.5M from 3,912 locations. Behind it was Disney’s (DIS) “Avatar: The Way of Water” with another $10.8M in its 8th weekend. Comcast subsidiary Universal’s “Puss in Boots: The Last Wish” placed number 4 with an estimated $8M. Rounding out the top five, “BTS: Yet to Come in Cinemas” grossed $6.3M in its debut weekend.
