Michael B. Jordan’s “Creed III” won this weekend’s domestic box office with a better-than-expected $58.7M from 4,007 locations, making it the biggest sports film opening in history. Overseas, the Amazon’s (AMZN) MGM movie opened to a franchise-best of $41.8M from 75 markets for a global cume $100.4M. “Creed III” received an A- CinemaScore.
BOX OFFICE RUNNER-UPS: Disney’s (DIS) “Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantomania” fell to number 2 with an estimated $12.5M from 3,825 theaters. Behind it was Comcast (CMCSA) subsidiary Universal’s “Cocaine Bear” with another $11M in its second outing. “Demon Slayers: Kimetsu No Yaiba – To the Swordsmith Village” placed number 4 with a $10.1M debut. Rounding out the top five, Lionsgate’s (LGF.A) “Jesus Revolution” grossed an estimated $8.7M.
