"Box Office Battle" is The Fly’s weekly roundup of what movies topped the weekend’s box office.
Disney’s (DIS) “Avatar: The Way of Water” has crossed the $2B mark at the worldwide box office, becoming the sixth movie in history to do so. The James Cameron sequel has earned $598M domestically and $1.43B overseas. This weekend “Avatar 2” grossed an estimated $20M at the domestic box office.
BOX OFFICE RUNNER-UPS: Comcast (CMCSA) subsidiary Universal’s “Puss in Boots: The Last Wish” placed number 2 with $11.5M from 3,611 theaters. Behind it was another Universal title, “M3GAN,” with $9.8M. Sony’s (SONY) “Missing” placed number 4 with a $9.3M debut. Rounding out the top five, Sony’s “A Man Called Otto” earned an estimated $9M from 3,802 locations.

Other publicly traded companies in filmmaking include Lionsgate’s (LGF.B), Paramount’s (PARA), and Warner Bros.’ (WBD).
