President Joe Biden called congressional leaders, including House Speaker Kevin McCarthy, to start talks on the debt ceiling, wrote Phil Mattingly and Jeremy Diamond for CNN, citing sources. The calls from the President "came after Treasury Secretary Janet Yellen notified lawmakers on Monday that the US could default on its debt by June 1," added the CNN story.
