The Sora app offers a TikTok-style feed where users can generate and share short videos based on text prompts. It is powered by OpenAI’s Sora 2 generative model, which lets users quickly turn text, images, or videos into dynamic video content.
Interestingly, it was first released on an invitation-only basis in the U.S. and Canada on September 30, 2025. The app saw around 56,000 U.S. downloads on its first day, with installations doubling on the second day.
OpenAI is making efforts to expand the app’s reach. ChatGPT Pro users are expected to gain access to the Sora 2 Pro model via both the sora.com website and the new mobile app. The company also announced plans for an upcoming Sora 2 API and a rapid international expansion of the app.
