OpenAI Expands Affordable ChatGPT Plan Across 16 Asian Countries

Artificial intelligence (AI) startup OpenAI (PC:OPAIIQ) is releasing its affordable ChatGPT Go subscription to 16 additional countries across Asia, following the plan’s strong performance in India and Indonesia. The rollout comes after the company’s earlier launches in those markets nearly doubled its subscriber base, positioning them among OpenAI’s largest user bases globally.

The plan will be priced in the local currency and will cost about $4.50 per month. ChatGPT Go gives users ten times more messages, image generations, and uploads per day than the free version. Additionally, it offers a longer memory capacity, all powered by OpenAI’s most advanced model to date, ChatGPT-5. These improvements aim to make ChatGPT more helpful for daily tasks like translation, tutoring, writing help, self-care tips, and step-by-step instructions.

OpenAI Is Targeting Emerging Markets

Nick Turley, OpenAI’s VP and head of ChatGPT, said the Go subscription was created to make the AI service’s most popular functions available at a lower price. He highlighted earlier that the offering targets growth in ChatGPT’s subscriber base, particularly in cost-sensitive, high-population emerging markets.

The company is witnessing a growing usage of ChatGPT in Southeast Asia, with the Philippines and Vietnam among the top five countries in the Asia-Pacific region for weekly active users. OpenAI is launching ChatGPT Go in countries including Thailand, Vietnam, the Philippines, Bangladesh, Cambodia, Pakistan, and Afghanistan. OpenAI is positioning itself to capture a larger share of these internet-first economies, where smartphone usage and AI adoption are accelerating.

OpenAI also offers premium tiers beyond the Go plan, including Plus and Pro, which have extra features. “Plus” offers quicker responses and priority access, while “Pro” is built for professional users and enterprises who need almost unlimited capacity and customization. These varied tiers demonstrate OpenAI’s approach to expanding its pricing options and audience, targeting everyone from everyday users to enterprise-level clients, while strengthening its footprint in global markets.
