BHP Group Limited has acknowledged the ongoing negotiations for a potential settlement regarding the Samarco dam failure, with a non-binding settlement proposal of roughly $25.7 billion, which aligns with BHP Brasil’s current provisions. The proposal includes past remediation and compensation efforts totaling $7.7 billion and outlines future cash payments and obligations. While discussions continue, a definitive settlement has not yet been reached as BHP Brasil remains committed to the restoration efforts through the Renova Foundation.
