Landing Gear

The National Transportation Safety Board issued an urgent recommendation to operators of 10 Bombardier Learjet airplane models to ensure main landing gear is attached correctly.

The recommendation to the Federal Aviation Administration to mandate compliance with manufacturer service bulletins on landing gear would cover 1,883 airplanes currently in service.

According to a Reuters report, it stems from the investigation of a fatal February 10 runway incident in Scottsdale, Arizona, involving a Learjet 35A, and three prior events in which Learjet landing gear disconnected from the airframe because a retaining bolt was not engaged through an aft pin.

According to the Air Charter Service website the Bombardier Learjet 35 carries up to 8 passengers and is known for its range. It can fly up to 2,056 miles nonstop.

However, the 35A model has a higher fuel capacity and has a maximum range to 2,789 miles.

Business Boost

The safety note comes at an unfortunate time for Bombardier as it has been boosted in recent months by a revival in business travel.

A recent report from SAP Concur revealed that some 15% of all business air travel bookings in the first laf of 2025 were to destinations in the U.S. Business travel between Canada and the U.S. also held steady, with the U.S. accounting for nearly 80% of outbound business trips made by Canadians.

This has boosted Bombardier’s figures. It reported strong financial performance for Q2 with revenues reaching $2 billion, featuring a notable 16% year-over-year increase in service revenues to $590 million.

Its share price has soared over 110% so far this year – see below.

Safety incidents could cause some damage to its upwards momentum as it is likely to impact buyer and public confidence. However, if dealt with swiftly then Bombardier shouldn’t feel too much turbulence.
