Apple’s (NASDAQ:AAPL) Vision Pro Headset Gets a Go

Story Highlights

Apple is loaning out its Vision Pro headsets to select developers, who can build and run their apps on the hardware. The actual commercial launch of the product is due in early 2024.

Tech giant Apple (NASDAQ:AAPL) has begun accepting applications from developers for its much-awaited Vision Pro Headsets. Apple is “loaning out” (not selling) its headset kits to developers so that they can build and run their apps, as well as give feedback on their functionality. The Vision Pro headsets that will be given out in this process will have to be returned when the actual headsets are launched commercially. Apple has set early 2024 as the launch period, with the current version priced at $3,499 per piece.

Details About the Vision Pro Headset Kits

Along with the headset, the developer kits include a device set-up manual, support for code-level requests, and the possibility to check in with Apple experts to design and build an app for the visionOS (vision operating system). To be an eligible developer, Apple requires you to be registered in the Apple Developer Program. Besides for the iPad apps, the program also helps Apple confirm the portability and capability of other apps built by developers on visionOS. When Apple unveiled the Vision Pro Headset at the Apple Worldwide Developers Conference in June this year, the iPhone maker could only display Apple-designed apps, such as iPad apps, on its hardware.

A comprehensive list of dos and don’ts regarding the Vision Pro headset has also been provided by Apple in their developer agreement. To begin with, the headset cannot be displayed, accessed, or handled by an unauthorized person. Also, the hardware must be kept safe in a Pelican hard case while not in use. Further, the developer cannot comment on or talk about the headset in public or on social media forums.

Additionally, Apple is also setting up Vision Pro developer labs in certain cities where select developers can access the headset. The cities include Cupertino, London, Munich, Shanghai, Singapore, and Tokyo.
