ETF Overview
SavvyShort (-2X) COIN ETF
SavvyShort (-2X) COIN ETF (TSE:COID) is a highly targeted, leveraged inverse exchange-traded fund that seeks daily investment results, before fees and expenses, equal to −2 times the daily percentage return of Coinbase Global, Inc. Class A (ticker COIN). Listed on the Toronto Stock Exchange and categorized within the Financials sector — specifically the Financial Exchanges & Data niche — COID gives Canadian investors a concentrated, tactical instrument to bet against or hedge short‑term declines in the share price of Coinbase, the leading U.S. cryptocurrency exchange operator.
The fund achieves its objective through the use of derivatives and other leveraged strategies rather than by owning the underlying stock. It is rebalanced daily, which means its performance is designed to match −2x of COIN’s return each trading day; over periods longer than one day, returns can diverge significantly from −2x the cumulative return of COIN because of compounding and volatility effects. For example, a one‑day 1% decline in COIN would aim to produce about a 2% gain in COID before fees, while a one‑day 1% rise in COIN would aim to produce about a 2% loss in COID.
COID does not hedge the currency exposure to the U.S. dollar, so Canadian-dollar returns will also reflect movements in the CAD/USD exchange rate. The ETF is therefore best suited to sophisticated, risk-tolerant, and active traders or portfolio managers seeking short‑term directional exposure or a tactical hedge against COIN; it is not designed for long‑term buy‑and‑hold investors or for those unfamiliar with the mechanics and risks of leveraged and inverse products. Key risks include leverage amplification, daily reset and path dependency (volatility decay), counterparty and derivatives risk, and potential tracking error. Before investing, users should understand how daily rebalancing affects multi‑day returns and consider whether the product fits their short‑term trading or hedging strategy.
