Q3 2026 Earnings Call Summary
The call was clearly positive, with strong quarterly sales and EBIT growth, record profitability, improving ready-to-eat margins, stronger cash generation, lower leverage, successful financing, and multiple capacity and growth initiatives. The main challenges were rising and volatile feed costs, lower export commodity prices, elevated safety metrics, higher inventory, and uncertainty around Brazilian import restrictions, but management emphasized that pricing, hedging, and financing processes are in place to address these issues.
Management expects CapEx of about SEK 680 million during 2026, with approximately SEK 130 million for the fourth quarter, working capital to increase during the fourth quarter, total financing cost to reported net debt to be around 7%, bank debt interest rate of approximately 4%, and the blended effective tax rate to be approximately 20%; the 2027 targets are 5%-7% of net sales growth, EBIT margin of 6%, return on capital employed of 15%, CO2 emissions reduction of 42%, antibiotic use below 1%, LTI below 15, and employer satisfaction above 75, while the company expects close to 100 kt market growth by 2030, Glenhaven Foods to add more than 10% of EPS on a 2025 basis, and feed price increases for the coming quarter and forward.
- Strongest Quarter Ever with Broad-Based GrowthQ3 2026 was described as Scandi Standard's strongest quarter ever. Net sales increased 8% to just over SEK 4 billion, supported by continued demand growth, price and mix improvements. Adjusted EBIT rose 18% to SEK 220 million, lifting the adjusted EBIT margin by 40 basis points to 5.4%, driven by operational efficiency, better capacity utilization, and customer price adjustments.
- Improved Earnings and EPSIncome for the period increased to SEK 131 million, while adjusted earnings per share rose 20% to SEK 2.19.
- Higher Value Creation per KilogramAdjusted EBIT per kg increased 15% to SEK 2.72 in Q3 2026 from SEK 2.36 in the prior-year period, showing positive momentum toward the 2027 target of SEK 3 per kg.
- Ready-to-Cook Growth and Profitability ImprovementReady-to-cook net sales increased 5%, chicken produced, measured as grill weight, increased 3%, and EBIT rose 7% to SEK 170 million from SEK 159 million. The EBIT margin improved to 5.6% from 5.5%, supported by strong demand across geographies and channels.
- Ready-to-Eat Margin RecoveryReady-to-eat net sales grew 25%, driven by demand in both food service and retail. The EBIT margin improved to 6.2% from 2.4%, supported by successful price increases, new product launches with accretive margins, improved capacity planning, and summer food-service initiatives that exceeded expectations.
- Ready-to-Eat Business Above Its Historical PeakOn a rolling 12-month basis, ready-to-eat performance is now above the historical peak reached in 2022, despite the loss of some continental contracts in 2023. Management cited an average EBIT margin of about 6% over recent years and said the business has low capital employed compared with ready-to-cook.
- Glenhaven Foods Acquisition Expands European PositionScandi Standard acquired Glenhaven Foods for SEK 1.4 billion, strengthening its European ready-to-eat position in breaded products and adding leadership in Ireland and a bridgehead into the U.K. retail market. Glenhaven has a strong management team, well-invested sites, and almost 50% capacity headroom. The acquisition was completed in the first half of October and was not included in Q3 figures.
- Expected EPS Contribution from GlenhavenThe Glenhaven acquisition was completed at approximately 8.2x EBIT, and management expects it to add more than 10% to EPS on a 2025 basis, including the impact of the capital increase and finance costs.
- Expanded Ready-to-Eat Capacity PlatformFactory C in the Netherlands began initial commercial production during the week of the call, with trial runs planned for Q4 2026. The facility has two large and efficient breaded-product lines with annual capacity of 50,000 tons and advanced formed-product capability. Together with Oosterwolde, Farre, and Glenhaven, management said the platform provides significant future growth capacity and the ability to double throughput.
- Strong Chicken Demand and Affordability PositionManagement reported strong demand for chicken and estimated a 3% volume CAGR in the Nordics and Ireland, supported by substitution from pork and beef. Chicken remains affordable across segments, while beef prices remain continuously high and pork prices have recently declined from elevated levels.
- Positive Retail and Food-Service TrendsBoth retail and food service increased during the quarter, with strong demand reported in most markets. Ready-to-eat food-service demand recovered strongly after a period of weakness, while retail growth also continued.
- Strong Export Performance and Decommoditization InitiativesExport markets delivered strong performance, with fairly stable price achievement during 2026 despite reduced chicken commodity prices. Management is pursuing long-term customer partnerships, optimized sales and operational planning, and greater integration between ready-to-cook raw material and ready-to-eat production to further decommoditize export sales.
- New Norwegian Salmon Industry CustomerThe Norwegian salmon industry represents a new customer group for Farmfood. Management described it as material for Farmfood, though not material for Scandi Standard overall, and said the customer could become a long-term contributor to Farmfood sales and the utilization of offals.
- Improved Returns and Capital StructureAdjusted return on capital employed improved 130 basis points to 13.1%, while return on equity improved 270 basis points to 14.7%. The equity ratio strengthened to 37.3% from just under 34%, mainly due to the rights issue.
- Strong Cash Generation and Lower LeverageOperating cash flow increased to almost SEK 220 million from SEK 189 million, supported by a SEK 66 million working-capital inflow. Net interest-bearing debt decreased by almost SEK 460 million, and leverage was reduced to 1.7, well below the 2.5 target.
- Successful Capital Increase and RefinancingThe oversubscribed capital increase added almost SEK 400 million to equity after transaction costs. A new five-year sustainability-linked financing package increased committed facilities from approximately EUR 290 million to EUR 450 million, with an option to add another EUR 150 million. Management said the refinancing extends maturities, strengthens liquidity, and preserves flexibility for organic and strategic growth.
- Investment in Capacity and EfficiencyNet CapEx was SEK 170 million in the quarter, focused on capacity and efficiency. Full-year 2026 CapEx is expected to be about SEK 680 million, with year-to-date spending of almost SEK 550 million. Remaining priorities include increased farming capacity in Lithuania, debottlenecking, capability improvements, and completion of Factory C.
- Sustainability Recognition and 2027 TargetsScandi Standard received an A rating from CDP for climate. Management reiterated its 2027 targets of 5%-7% net sales growth, a 6% EBIT margin, 15% return on capital employed, a 42% reduction in CO2 emissions, antibiotic use below 1%, an LTI below 15, and employer satisfaction above 75%.
- Stable Feed Efficiency and Preparedness for Input-Cost ChangesFeed efficiency remained strong and stable at 1.48. Management said the company has processes for regular customer price adjustments, hedges raw materials for internal feed production, and is focused on passing feed-price changes forward without speculating on shorter-term hedges.
