Q3 2026 Earnings Call Summary

Q3 2026
Earnings Call Date:Oct 28, 2026|% Change Since:-1.34%|
Earnings Call Sentiment|Positive

The call was strongly positive. Vista reported record production, 75% revenue growth, 78% adjusted EBITDA growth, $334 million of quarterly free cash flow, rising cash balances, and substantial deleveraging. Management maintained or improved its 2026 and 2027 outlook, reported sufficient pipeline capacity, and described potential upside from additional drilling, landing zones, M&A, and shareholder returns. The main negatives were a 6% increase in lifting costs, a 6% sequential decline in realized oil prices, negative financing cash flow, near-term production flatness in October and November, and the conditional nature of RIGI-related plans.

Company Guidance

Vista said it maintains its 2027 guidance of 185,000 barrel per day production, expects adjusted EBITDA of $3.3 billion assuming Brent of $80, and estimates that a $1 change in Brent or differential leads to a delta of $45 million to $50 million of adjusted EBITDA; for 2026, production is expected to be flat in October and November, Q4 guidance of “more than 170,000 barrel oil per day” was revised so that “this 170 could be about 175,” and the company expects to meet guidance of 158 BOE per day. Activity guidance for 2027 was between 100 and 110 new wells, with the possibility of adding a drilling rig, which “will push us toward the higher end” and “may be even slightly above,” primarily related to Bandurria Norte; assuming the RIGI application get approved, the project will be brought forward from 2029 to next year, with a full update planned in Q4 earnings, in February. Net leverage ratio should reach one time by the end of the year, while the $150 million share buyback plan has $55 million executed and $95 million pending, and the company said it could have “a larger buyback” next year.

  • Record Production GrowthTotal production reached a record 169,000 BOE per day in Q3 2026, up 33% year-over-year and 8% sequentially. Oil production averaged 147,000 barrels per day, up 34% year-over-year and 9% sequentially, while gas production increased 29% year-over-year and 8% sequentially. Growth was driven by organic production, 25 new wells connected during the quarter, 19 wells tied in over the last 12 months, and the consolidation of the Bandurria Sur and Bajo del Toro working interests.
  • Strong Revenue GrowthTotal revenue was $1.23 billion, up 75% year-over-year and 7% sequentially. Growth was driven by higher oil and gas production and higher oil prices; sequentially, higher production offset lower oil realization prices.
  • Higher Oil Exports and Realized PricesOil exports increased 56% year-over-year to 9.9 million barrels, representing 73% of oil sales volume, with quarterly export revenue of $935 million. Realized oil prices were $84.2 per barrel, 30% above Q3 2025. The company sold 100% of its volumes at export parity prices domestically and internationally.
  • Adjusted EBITDA ExpansionAdjusted EBITDA reached $841 million, up 78% year-over-year and 4% sequentially, driven by strong revenue growth and production growth that offset lower realized oil prices. The adjusted EBITDA margin was 68%, up 1 percentage point year-over-year, while adjusted EBITDA per BOE increased 34% year-over-year to $54.1.
  • Improved Net Income and Earnings Per ShareNet income was $293 million, compared with $27 million in Q3 2025 after excluding the prior-year $288 million non-recurring gain related to the Petronas acquisition. Earnings per share were $2.6 during the quarter.
  • Strong Free Cash Flow GenerationCash flow from operating activities was $773 million, including a $50 million income tax payment, and free cash flow was $334 million in Q3. Year-to-date free cash flow, excluding M&A payments, was $563 million. Management said free cash flow is expected to remain positive in Q4.
  • Balance Sheet and Deleveraging ProgressThe company ended Q3 with $775 million of cash. Net leverage declined to 1.12 times adjusted EBITDA from 1.41 times in the previous quarter, while pro forma net leverage declined to 1.04 times from 1.25 times. Management expects net leverage to reach one time by year-end.
  • Cost Efficiency and Lower Selling ExpensesAdjusted EBITDA growth occurred amid flat unit costs. Selling expenses decreased 14% year-over-year to $3.6 per BOE, mainly because higher production volumes diluted the ship-or-pay cost of the Duplicar pipeline on a per-barrel basis.
  • Pipeline Capacity Supports Growth PlanCurrent pipeline capacity was stated at 180,000 barrels per day, including 36,000 barrels per day, or 20%, of spare capacity. Capacity includes 33,000 barrels per day from drag reduction agents, of which 9,000 barrels per day has been publicly disclosed, and Duplicar capacity was increased by approximately 2,000 barrels per day through open access. Management said it does not see a bottleneck for its growth plan.
  • VMOS Project ProgressVMOS mechanical completion is scheduled for the end of 2026, with pipeline filling expected to begin in Q1 and commercial operations scheduled for the first semester. Initial capacity is expected to be 80,000 barrels per day, with 50,000 barrels per day expected to come in the second semester.
  • 2026 and 2027 Production Outlook MaintainedManagement said it expects to meet its 2026 guidance of 158,000 BOE per day and improved its Q4 soft guidance from more than 170,000 barrels per day to approximately 175,000 barrels per day. The company reiterated its 2027 production guidance of 185,000 barrels per day and expects a similar quarterly production profile to the current year.
  • 2027 EBITDA Guidance ReiteratedAssuming Brent oil prices of $80 per barrel, management reiterated 2027 adjusted EBITDA guidance of $3.3 billion. A $1 change in Brent or the differential is expected to result in a $45 million to $50 million change in adjusted EBITDA.
  • Potential Increase in Drilling ActivityVista may add a drilling rig in 2027, which would move activity toward the higher end of its guidance of 100 to 110 new wells and potentially slightly above. Additional activity would be mostly related to Bandurria Norte.
  • RIGI Project AccelerationIf the RIGI application is approved, Vista plans to bring the Bandurria Norte project forward from 2029 to 2027. Management expects to provide a full update on the project, CapEx, and activity plans with the fourth-quarter earnings results in February.
  • Share Buyback and Capital AllocationVista has an approved $150 million share-buyback plan for 2026, of which $55 million had been executed during Q3 and $95 million remained pending for the year. Management indicated that strong 2026 free cash flow could support a larger buyback in the following year, alongside possible CapEx acceleration, continued deleveraging, and other shareholder returns.
  • M&A FlexibilityManagement expects lower leverage to provide flexibility for opportunistic M&A. The company remains focused on core acreage in the oil window of Vaca Muerta, is not actively involved in a process at present, and remains alert to opportunities that could generate incremental value.
  • Additional Landing-Zone and Well-Inventory UpsideSeveral landing zones remain untested, including upper carbonates in Bajada del Palo Este and additional zones in Águila Mora. Bajo del Toro has 146 wells in inventory across 14,000 acres, while Águila Mora has 100 wells in inventory across 21,000 acres. Management said further drilling and testing could add more wells to inventory in coming years.
  • Progress Against the 2026 Work ProgramManagement said Vista had made very good progress on its annual work program and was well on track to deliver its 2026 objectives.
