SSE plc, a diversified energy firm established in 1989 and based in Perth, United Kingdom, is deeply involved in all facets of the electricity sector. Its operations span from power generation, utilizing a mix of sources such as hydroelectric, natural gas, coal, oil, and multi-fuel technologies, to the transmission, distribution, and supply of electricity. The company delivers electricity to roughly 3.8 million households and businesses situated across the northern central belt of Scotland and central southern England. Furthermore, SSE manages, operates, and expands the high-voltage electricity transmission grid that serves northern Scotland and its outlying islands. Beyond electricity, the company is active in the gas industry, covering production, storage, distribution, and retail supply. Its diverse business interests also include utility contracting, telecommunications, energy market trading, insurance services, property management, and the provision of maintenance solutions. The company adopted its current name, SSE plc, in September 2011, having previously been known as Scottish and Southern Energy plc.
