Q3 2026 Earnings Call Summary

Q3 2026
Earnings Call Date:Oct 29, 2026|% Change Since:0.00%|
Earnings Call Sentiment|Positive

The call was positive overall. Management reported continued revenue, earnings, organic growth, capital-return, talent, and AI execution momentum despite intensifying property and casualty pricing pressure, broader competition, normalized construction growth, transactional-liability uncertainty, and builders' risk softness. The company improved its 2026 margin outlook, maintained organic-growth guidance toward the higher end of its mid-single-digit range, and expressed confidence in its structural market position and long-term growth opportunities.

Company Guidance

For 2026, management continues to guide to organic revenue growth toward the higher end of its mid-single-digit range, with a full year adjusted EBITDAC margin that will be down modestly year-over-year; the adjusted effective tax rate was approximately 26%, with a similar rate expected in the fourth quarter, and GAAP interest expense net of interest income on operating funds is expected to be approximately $59 million in the fourth quarter. Guidance embeds continued property pricing declines, heightened competition during the fourth quarter, our second largest property quarter, casualty competition broadened beyond small commercial and middle market and into pockets of higher hazard classes, a more normalized level of growth in construction projects, intensified competition from new facilities as well as the admitted market impacting binding authority, more moderate growth in transactional liability and continued softness in builders' risk. Management said it continues to expect modest margin expansion in most years, but is not providing any specific guidance for 2027.

  • Revenue and Earnings GrowthThird-quarter total revenue grew 4.7% to $790 million, driven by 4% organic revenue growth. Adjusted EBITDAC grew 3.8% to $244 million, and adjusted earnings per share grew 8.5% to $0.51. For the first nine months of 2026, organic revenue increased 7.3%, adjusted EBITDAC increased 7.9%, and adjusted earnings per share increased 15.1%.
  • Resilient Margin PerformanceThird-quarter adjusted EBITDAC margin was 30.9%, compared with 31.2% in the prior-year period. Management said disciplined expense management and progress from Empower helped offset continued absorption of late-2025 talent investments. The full-year 2026 margin outlook was improved from down 50 to 100 basis points to down modestly, which management characterized as around 50 basis points.
  • Share Repurchases and Capital ReturnsThe company repurchased 3.5 million shares for $150 million during the quarter and 1.3 million shares for $50 million in October. Through the call date, Ryan Specialty had returned $573 million to shareholders through $73 million in dividends and distributions and $500 million in share repurchases, representing 5% of total shares outstanding since the program began. The company had $100 million remaining under its current authorization.
  • Strong Balance Sheet and Capital FlexibilityThe company ended the quarter at 3.3x total net leverage on a credit basis, within its 3 to 4x comfort corridor. Management said M&A and share repurchases remain key capital-allocation priorities in addition to the modest and sustainable dividend.
  • Wholesale Brokerage ExecutionWholesale brokers maintained strong renewal retention, won head-to-head against competitors, and captured new business from the steady flow into the E&S channel despite declining property pricing and increased capacity. The professional lines team expanded market share and outperformed the market.
  • Solid Casualty and Construction OpportunitiesCasualty produced another solid quarter. Construction growth normalized in the third quarter after a strong first half, while activity tied to data centers improved each quarter in 2026. Management described the construction pipeline, including data-center infrastructure projects, as very strong and said it expects the class to remain a source of new business.
  • Underwriting Management GrowthThe underwriting management specialty had a solid quarter led by reinsurance and transactional liability while maintaining discipline relative to market conditions. Ryan Re delivered strong renewal retention, including another strong quarter from the Markel portion of the book. Management identified an approximately $2 billion Ryan Re opportunity, including the Markel renewal-rights deal, and said reinsurance remains a key focus for organic growth and potential similar transactions.
  • Delegated Authority and Capacity ExpansionManagement said Ryan Specialty is benefiting from incremental delegated-authority capacity, using highly rated A and A+ capacity and a modest amount of alternative capacity to develop products and bring them to market faster. The global transactional-liability facility was completing its renewal after increasing limits and/or capacity for the 11th consecutive year, while Ryan Specialty said it expects to continue taking share.
  • Talent Retention and Hiring InvestmentsThe late-2025 hiring class was described as performing well, ahead of schedule in new-business opportunities and book growth, and contributing to organic growth. Producer retention remains in the mid-90s, and management said Ryan Specialty continues to be a net attractor of differentiated talent with a high success rate of retaining producers it wants to retain. The company expects the 2025 hiring class to contribute to 2027 growth and become fully margin-accretive over two to three years.
  • AI-Related Insurance SolutionsRyan Specialty launched Tera Underwriters in August to serve the emerging AI economy, offering up to $625 million of capacity for computing hardware such as GPUs deployed in data centers and crypto-mining facilities. Tera combined with Trident to create an in-transit solution for GPUs and related AI infrastructure, increasing limits from $10 million to $100 million per shipment. Management also said alternative capital is becoming available for AI exposures and that the company has completed two facilities serving the AI economy.
  • AI Productivity GainsRyan Re reduced processing time for commercial auto liability submissions from as much as two hours to under three minutes through an AI-enabled casualty facultative workbench. In RT Specialty, an LLM-driven tool filed tens of thousands of policy documents during the quarter. In Ryan Specialty Benefits, AI-enabled RFP intake allowed certain teams to review roughly 30% more submissions each week. AI adoption and demand for training were accelerating across the firm.
  • Structural Market PositionManagement said the E&S market represents 27% of commercial P&C and delegated underwriting authority represents 20%. Ryan Specialty remains the largest delegated underwriting authority platform in the world, and management said growing risk complexity, including data centers and the AI economy, supports continued demand for specialty distribution.
  • Organic Growth GuidanceThe company continued to guide to organic revenue growth toward the higher end of its mid-single-digit range for 2026. Management said its platform, talent, innovation, delegated authority exposure, and new products are expected to support industry-leading growth over time, while specific 2027 guidance was not provided.
  • M&A Opportunity and Strategic PartnershipsManagement said smaller transactions had a decent likelihood of closing during the remainder of 2026 and viewed 2027 as a period of greater M&A opportunity, with a pipeline that could begin identifying itself early in the year. Ryan Specialty also expects potential opportunities from the Aon-USI combination, including greater consolidation of brokerage and delegated underwriting authority intermediaries.
