Q3 2026 Earnings Call Summary
The call was strongly positive, supported by $1.98 adjusted EPS, a higher 2026 guidance floor, strong customer and industrial growth, a substantial data center and industrial pipeline, completed generation projects, resilience investment, constructive regulatory outcomes, and solid credit positioning. The company also acknowledged slower sequential industrial growth, pending regulatory approvals, unresolved commercial CCS and renewable opportunities, and pricing challenges for some speed-to-market options. Highlights significantly outweighed the lowlights.
Entergy narrowed its 2026 adjusted EPS guidance range, raising the bottom by $0.10, while leaving its longer-term outlooks unchanged and continuing to expect strong sales to support its greater-than-8% trajectory; the expected earnings impact from approximately $1.5 billion of increased capital from 2026 through 2030 moves the company into the upper end of its outlook ranges, clarified as the upper half from 2027 through 2030. Management expects Moody's FFO to debt metric to be at 15% or better in all years of the 2027 through 2030 outlook, continues to target equity needs of 10% to 15% of the total capital plan, and said current needs are in the 9% to 9.5% range; industrial sales are expected to grow 16% from 2026 through 2030, the bill trajectory is still around 4%, and projects representing 7 to 12 gigawatts of data center interest and 3 to 5 gigawatts of traditional industrial discussions could convert into signed agreements within the next 24 months.
- Strong Third-Quarter Earnings and Raised Guidance FloorAdjusted EPS was $1.98, higher than last year, driven by warmer weather and strong residential and industrial sales growth. Entergy narrowed its 2026 adjusted EPS guidance range and raised the bottom by $0.10.
- Strong Sales Growth Across Customer SegmentsAfter normalizing for weather, Entergy reported strong sales growth in both residential and industrial sectors. Industrial growth included data center and primary metals ramping, and management continues to expect a 16% industrial sales growth rate from 2026 through 2030.
- Google Arkansas Expansion Supports Customer BenefitsThe amended Google agreement for expansion of its West Memphis campus is expected to increase Entergy Arkansas's fair share plus customer bill savings by at least $500 million, bringing Entergy's total expected savings to at least $7.5 billion. The expansion is expected to create jobs, tax revenues, and economic activity, with ramping expected to begin in 2028.
- Investment Added for Google ExpansionEntergy Arkansas filed for approval of $600 million of investment for battery storage systems and a power purchase agreement for Big Island Solar. The $600 million investment was added to the capital plan in the quarter and is expected to generate incremental sales.
- Robust Economic Development and Customer PipelineEntergy states ranked among the top 10 nationwide for growth in new business applications. Louisiana is projected to add more than 55 thousand jobs over the next 2 years. Entergy reported a project pipeline outside its base plan involving 7 to 12 gigawatts of data center demand and 3 to 5 gigawatts of traditional industrial demand, with potential to convert into signed agreements within the next 24 months.
- Recognition for Economic Development and Customer EngagementEntergy was named a top utility in economic development by Site Selection magazine for the 19th straight year and was one of 5 recipients of EEI's 2026 national key accounts award for outstanding customer engagement.
- Record System Peak DemandAugust coincident peak demand exceeded 24 thousand megawatts, up 2% from the previous peak. Entergy Mississippi's peak demand was 11% higher, driven by data center ramping.
- OCAPS Completed and OperationalThe Orange County Advanced Power Station is complete and operational, delivering 1.2 thousand megawatts to Entergy Texas customers. Management said the plant was completed at a cost far less than a similar plant would require if construction started today and described it as among the most efficient in the world.
- Construction Efficiency and Standardization ImprovementsEntergy's standardized design reduced engineering time by roughly 50%. Batch purchasing, access to heavy construction equipment, drone inspections, and robotic welding are being used to improve quality, cost, schedule, and safety outcomes.
- Significant Generation and Transmission DevelopmentFollowing completion of OCAPS, Entergy has 2.3 gigawatts, or 3 natural gas plants, in the queue; 10 plants in various construction stages; 9 plants in regulatory review in Louisiana; and 4 additional plants in the supply plan. Eight units remain available for new growth opportunities. Entergy also has more than 1 thousand miles of transmission planned, 85% of which are 500 kV lines, with approximately 70% already approved and about a third of the line miles under construction.
- Natural Gas Transportation Secured for GrowthEntergy signed natural gas firm transportation agreements for 1.325 billion cubic feet per day, enough to supply fuel for 10 new combined-cycle plants in Louisiana while supporting new pipeline capacity for industrial customer growth.
- Resilience Investments and Federal Grant SupportEntergy continues to execute its $2 billion phase 1 accelerated resilience programs. Entergy Louisiana is working on a $270 million project to replace more than 500 poles and other infrastructure near New Orleans. Entergy New Orleans began a grant-funded project upgrading 94 poles that will directly benefit more than 1.9 thousand customers. The Department of Energy awarded Entergy utilities $14 million to deploy dynamic line-rating technology across more than 1 thousand miles of transmission lines.
- Constructive Regulatory ProgressEntergy Arkansas reached a settlement with staff resulting in essentially no rate change, including a 9.7% ROE and a 47.5% equity capital structure after adjusting for deferred tax. Louisiana approved the $1.2 billion Babble to Weber transmission project. Entergy New Orleans received approval to extend its formula rate plan for 4 more years through 2030.
- Strong Credit Metrics and Completed Financing PlanManagement said credit metric outlooks remain better than rating-agency thresholds and expects Moody's FFO-to-debt metric to be 15% or better in all years of the outlook period. Entergy settled just over $900 million of equity forwards, issued $1.5 billion of junior subordinated notes receiving 50% equity treatment, and Entergy Louisiana issued $1 billion of bonds at an average rate of less than 6%. Planned financings for the year are complete.
- Equity Needs Proactively ManagedMore than 40% of Entergy's 2027 through 2030 equity needs are already contracted, extending into 2028. Equity needs for the four-year outlook period are just below the targeted range of 10% to 15% of the total capital plan, currently in the 9% to 9.5% range due to timing around capital additions.
- Tax Credit Monetization and Alternative FinancingEntergy received $256 million in October from the sale of 2026 production tax credits. The company also closed its second build-to-suit lease, for Entergy Louisiana's Waterford 6 plant, and is exploring private credit and other less-traditional financing tools to expand investment capacity and support growth beyond 2030.
- Capital Plan Increased and Earnings Outlook MaintainedEntergy increased capital by approximately $1.5 billion from 2026 through 2030, including the Google expansion investment. Management said the resulting expected earnings impact moves the company into the upper half of its outlook ranges, while the outlooks themselves remain unchanged and continue to support a greater-than-8% trajectory.
- Progress on Renewable and CCS CapabilitiesEntergy said it is making good progress in solar and carbon capture and storage, particularly through innovations intended to reduce CCS construction costs and improve competitiveness within available incentives. The company is also evaluating solar investments that could serve Meta's Vista project and could be added in the back end of the current forecast period and beyond 2030.
