Q3 2026 Earnings Call Summary
The call was broadly positive, with 15 highlights versus 11 lowlights. Nolato reported group sales growth, strong Medical Solutions and Materials performance, strategic acquisitions, improved operating cash flow, and a strong financial position. These positives were moderated by lower group and business-area margins, continued medical ramp-up costs, automotive weakness expected to persist in Q4, lower Hygiene volumes, and elevated intragroup costs.
For full year 2026, CapEx is expected to be SEK 600 million to SEK 650 million; the effective tax rate is normalized to around 23%; no headwind is expected in Q4 from raw material pricing if the present situation is remaining; the ramp-up of larger projects is expected to continue going forward some quarters, but is expected to be getting better and better; the automotive headwind will remain in the fourth quarter, while how it looks further on remains uncertain; and the ongoing rate for costs outside the business areas is expected to be somewhere in between the SEK 9 million and the SEK 15 million per quarter.
- Group Sales GrowthThird-quarter sales rose 7% to SEK 2.5 billion from SEK 2.342 billion last year. Excluding currency effects and the two acquisitions, growth was 3%.
- Strong Medical Solutions GrowthMedical Solutions sales increased 12% to SEK 1.469 billion from SEK 1.311 billion. Excluding currency effects and acquisitions, growth was 9%, supported particularly by Drug Delivery, with additional growth in IVD, cardiology, and pharma packaging.
- Strategic Medical AcquisitionsNolato finalized the acquisitions of Nolato Qualtech and Nolato Unitron during the quarter. Together, the acquisitions bring approximately SEK 600 million in sales. Qualtech adds a medical-cluster business in Galway with medical and defense customers, while Unitron adds development capabilities in the Netherlands, Belgium, and the United States.
- Broader Medical OfferingManagement said Unitron strengthens Nolato's ability to deliver complete medical product solutions, including electromechanical devices and end-to-end manufacturing of complete products. The acquisitions were described as important building blocks toward becoming a more complete global medical solution provider.
- Materials Business ExpansionThe Materials business within Engineered Solutions grew 27% in the quarter on a currency-adjusted and fully organic basis. Growth came from Aerospace, Automotive, and Telecom, and the business represented 23% of Engineered Solutions sales compared with 18% last year.
- Materials Mix Supporting ProfitabilityManagement stated that Materials has a positive margin effect compared with the rest of Engineered Solutions. The company said it has maintained the margin as it expanded from telecom into automotive and other areas and does not see a different trend in new areas.
- Operating Cash Flow ImprovementCash flow from operating activities increased to SEK 332 million from SEK 301 million, primarily due to lower capital investments.
- Strong Financial PositionNet financial liabilities in relation to EBITDA were 1.0x compared with 0.5x last year, remaining at what management described as a low level even after the dividend paid in Q2 and two acquisitions in Q3. The company said its financial position supports further investments and acquisitions.
- Planned Reduction in Full-Year Capital ExpenditureNet investments excluding acquisitions were SEK 191 million, similar to Q3 last year. Full-year 2026 CapEx is expected to be SEK 600 million to SEK 650 million, compared with SEK 788 million in 2025, in line with the estimate after Q2.
- Portfolio OptimizationNolato finalized the divestment of its Romanian subsidiary on October 1. The business had approximately SEK 70 million in sales, and management described the divestment, together with the acquisitions, as part of portfolio optimization and a move to focus Engineered Solutions on selected strategic segments.
- Consumer Electronics and Materials Market PositionsEngineered Solutions reported good growth from Consumer Electronics and described its volumes there as stable. Management also highlighted advanced market positions in Consumer Electronics and Materials.
- Positive Current Trading and Market PositionManagement said Medical Solutions continues to pursue its growth strategy, with high market activity in several regions and a broad customer base with long-standing relationships. Overall, Nolato was described as well positioned across three continents.
- Automotive Cost Mitigation ActionsIn response to automotive volume declines, management said it is continuously reviewing organizational needs and has initiated and taken the necessary actions to align with customer demand.
- Expected Normalization of Tax RateThe effective tax rate was described as normalized at around 23%.
- Expected End of Raw Material HeadwindThe company said the remaining raw material pricing impact related to oil prices was approximately SEK 10 million in Q3 and that it does not expect a headwind in Q4 if the present situation remains.
