Q3 2026 Earnings Call Summary
The call was strongly positive, with substantial year-over-year improvements in revenue, EBIT, net profit, cash flow, return on capital employed, leverage, and equity ratio. Management also highlighted significant contract awards, restructuring savings, and a cautiously positive market outlook. The main challenges were unresolved warranty and recall matters, higher material and tariff costs, working-capital requirements, legacy Drive Control Systems issues, and regulatory and trade-related uncertainty. The highlights significantly outweighed the lowlights.
Management expects a positive underlying development in profitability to continue, driven primarily by further operational improvements, additional cost reductions and eventually also benefit from the more cost-efficient manufacturing footprint; the near-term outlook remains cautiously positive, with a strong truck order intake in North America and a positive and stable market development in Europe, although there are uncertainties regarding geopolitical and trade-related topics. Management does not see any significant changes in Q4 revenues, expects the first half of next year might see somewhat lower growth before it will pick up again second half, and says overall, year-over-year stable, while a small reduction in North America truck volumes in first half of next year may be followed by an increase again. Working-capital measures should show results over the next 6 to 12 months; the Cluses restructuring is expected to deliver an annual saving of approximately EUR 5 million against a onetime cost of approximately EUR 7.5 million, with a payback of less than 2 years, and is expected to be concluded during first quarter next year, possibly earlier. The long-term dividend target is to distribute up to 50% of annual net profit as dividends over a business cycle.
- Broad-Based Profitability ImprovementQ3 EBIT increased to EUR 9 million from EUR 4.9 million in Q3 2025, with the EBIT margin improving to 4.8% from 3%. Net profit increased to EUR 6.4 million from EUR 1.6 million, while year-to-date net income improved from a EUR 2.6 million loss in 2025 to a EUR 16.8 million profit in 2026.
- Revenue Growth and Market StabilizationQ3 revenue was EUR 185 million, described as almost 40% above Q3 last year. The CFO also stated that the group revenue level was 13.7% higher than in Q3 2025. Key markets, including North America, had recovered from the decline seen in the second half of last year, while the Q3 reduction from Q2 was attributed to normal summer seasonality.
- Improved Cash Flow and Capital EfficiencyQ3 net cash flow was positive at EUR 2.2 million. Year-to-date cash flow was EUR 1.8 million positive compared with negative EUR 4.8 million in 2025. Return on capital employed increased to 11.4% from 1.7% a year ago and had improved for four consecutive quarters.
- Flow Control Systems PerformanceFlow Control Systems reported volume increases in all business units, with the reported level 26.7% higher than in Q3 last year. EBIT increased to EUR 7 million from EUR 3 million, more than doubling year over year, and the EBIT margin reached 8.2%.
- Drive Control Systems StabilizationDrive Control Systems revenue was 4.4% higher than in Q2 2025, with management describing a stabilizing upward trend in the top line. Higher material costs were compensated EBIT-wise to a large extent by reductions in the operating cost base.
- Cluses Restructuring and Manufacturing Footprint OptimizationThe restructuring of the Cluses facility in France was approved by French authorities. Driveline production will transfer to KA plants in Slovakia and Brazil, while Cluses will become a dedicated Couplings production site. The company expects approximately EUR 5 million in annual savings against a one-time cost of approximately EUR 7.5 million, with a payback of less than 2 years. The restructuring is expected to conclude during the first quarter next year, possibly earlier, following plant consolidations completed in Sweden and China during 2026.
- Strong Contract AwardsKA secured EUR 142 million in estimated contract revenues during Q3, balanced between Drive Control Systems and Flow Control Systems and consisting of both incremental business and extensions of existing contracts. Management said the awards reflect improved pricing and contractual terms and a focus on winning profitable business rather than pursuing volume for its own sake.
- Diverse New and Extended ProgramsHighlighted awards included a EUR 34 million cabin stabilizer contract extension for a European-headquartered global truck OEM, EUR 24 million of hose and tube business for an autonomous people mover in North America, a EUR 20 million Couplings contract from a Japanese truck OEM, and a EUR 50 million contract extension for automatic transmission shifters. All four programs have SOP in the current year or next year and are expected to contribute to revenue within 6 to 12 months.
- Improved Balance Sheet and LeverageNet interest-bearing debt was reduced by EUR 27.3 million from Q1 2025. The net interest-bearing debt ratio was reduced by more than 50% from Q2 2025 and stood at 1.5x. Bond-term leverage also stood at 1.5x, compared with a level above 3x before Q3 2025, while the equity ratio increased to 34%.
- New Dividend PolicyThe Board approved a new dividend policy targeting distribution of up to 50% of annual net profit as dividends over a business cycle.
- Working Capital Improvement OpportunityManagement identified significant opportunities to reduce net working capital relative to revenue through customer payment terms, improving on-time payments, addressing overdue customer payments, and reducing inventory levels. The company said it expects to see results over the next 6 to 12 months.
- Steer-by-Wire DevelopmentThe Steering business unit, formed following the acquisition of Chassis Autonomy, has a dedicated team working with several initiatives, customers, and potential customers. KA is actively pursuing industry partnerships to industrialize the Steer-by-Wire system and is working toward commercialization.
- Positive Near-Term Market OutlookManagement described the near-term outlook as cautiously positive, citing strong truck order intake in North America and positive, stable market development in key European markets. The company expects the positive underlying development in profitability to continue through operational improvements, additional cost reductions, and the more cost-efficient manufacturing footprint.
- Capital Markets Day PlannedKA plans to hold a Capital Markets Day in Oslo on February 25 next year, alongside the Q4 presentation, where it intends to outline strategic priorities, performance-improvement plans, growth ambitions, and product and technology opportunities.
