Bulls Say, Bears Say

Bulls Say
Cash GenerationSustained, large operating and free cash flows (FCF ~246B, FCF growth ~62%) that align closely with reported earnings (~97% of net income) provide durable internal funding for dividends, loan loss provisioning and strategic investments without immediate reliance on volatile wholesale markets.
Diversified Universal Bank ModelA broad product mix — retail, SME, corporate lending, payments, cards, insurance and treasury — plus an extensive branch and digital footprint creates diversified revenue streams and cross-sell opportunities that stabilize income through cycles and support client stickiness over the medium term.
Capital Base & Positive ROEA sizable equity base (~185B) and a positive TTM ROE (~6.8%) give the bank capacity to absorb shocks, support lending growth and meet regulatory requirements. While ROE has softened, meaningful equity underpins franchise stability and long-term lending capacity.
Bears Say
Elevated LeverageA sharp step-up in reported debt-to-equity (~6.25x) materially increases balance-sheet risk and sensitivity to funding markets and interest costs. Higher leverage constrains capital flexibility, raises regulatory and refinancing risk, and reduces the bank's shock-absorption capacity over the medium term.
Thin And Volatile ProfitabilityCurrent net margins are thin (~3.4% TTM) and have swung materially versus 2024 (~8.5%), indicating earnings volatility. Low margins reduce buffers versus credit losses and make earnings more sensitive to NIM compression, fee variability or higher operating costs over the coming months.
Earnings Weakness (EPS)A large negative EPS growth rate (~-41% TTM) signals recent earnings deterioration and pressure on profitability. Persisting EPS decline can force retention of capital, constrain dividend policy and limit reinvestment, weakening confidence in near-term earnings power and strategic initiatives.
