Positive Factors
Revenue GrowthRepeated record revenue and accelerating year-over-year growth indicate strong demand for the company’s networking products. Sustained top-line expansion can improve operating leverage, support broader customer adoption, and provide a durable foundation for scaling newer, higher-speed product generations.
Negative Factors
Weak Cash GenerationDeeply negative operating and free cash flow means current growth is not yet funding the business internally. If cash consumption persists, the company may need additional financing, while working-capital pressure and investment demands could limit flexibility and increase execution risk during expansion.

Applied Optoelectronics Earnings Call Summary

Earnings Call Date:Aug 05, 2026(Q2-2026)|% Change Since:-45.54%|Next Earnings Date:Nov 04, 2026
Earnings Call SentimentPositive

The call communicated very strong demand, record revenue growth (86% YoY), return to non-GAAP profitability, clear product momentum in 400G/800G/1.6T, and aggressive U.S. capacity expansion funded by recent equity raises. However, the company repeatedly emphasized that near-term revenue is capacity- and component-constrained, is incurring elevated OpEx and heavy CapEx to scale, and faces customer concentration and some supply-chain/timing risks. On balance, the operational wins, robust guidance, and financial resources to fund expansion outweigh the execution and supply constraints described.

Positive Updates

Record Revenue and Strong Top-Line Growth
Q2 revenue of $191.9M (rounded to $192M) was a company record, up 86% year-over-year and up 27% sequentially; company delivered 5th consecutive quarter of record revenue.

Negative Updates

Capacity and Supply Constraints Limiting Near-Term Revenue
Company repeatedly stated near-term revenue is bounded by production capacity and key component availability; forecast demand expected to outpace production capacity through mid-2027, constraining ability to monetize strong demand.

Company Guidance

AOI guided Q3 revenue of $255M–$290M (midpoint ≈130% YoY growth), non‑GAAP gross margin of 29.0%–30.5%, non‑GAAP net income of $10.1M–$24.0M and non‑GAAP EPS of $0.11–$0.26 on ~92.8M diluted shares, and expects Q3 CATV revenue of $100M–$110M; for 2026 management reiterated revenue of ~$1.1B (limited by production capacity and component availability) and continued non‑GAAP profitability, while forecasting non‑GAAP operating expenses of $70M–$80M per quarter. They said current 800G/1.6T capacity is approaching ~200k units/month (up from ~100k at Q1), targeting >650k/month by year‑end and >930k/month by end‑2027 (over half in Texas), that 800G revenue (Q2 was $12.8M and 11.9% of data‑center revenue) should grow ~5x in Q3, and that CPO ELS production could ultimately reach ~400k pieces/month in 2028; Q2 results to date included $191.9M revenue, 29.8% non‑GAAP gross margin, $5.5M non‑GAAP net income ($0.06/share), $508.8M cash, $278.8M inventory, $92.8M debt, $565.5M Q2 capex (including $280M equipment prepayments), and $538.8M raised under the ATM.

1.Investing in our common stock involves a high degree of risk. See Part I, Item 1A, Risk Factors, of our Annual Report on Form 10-K for the year ended December 31, 2024 for a detailed discussion of the risk factors affecting our Company. As of June 30, 2025, there have been no material changes to those risk factors, except as described below.  Recently elevated geopolitical tensions, volatility and uncertainty with respect to international trade policies, including tariffs and export controls, may have a material adverse impact on our business, the markets in which we compete and the world economy. In recent months since April 2025, the United States and its trading partners have imposed, expanded and revised a wide range of tariffs, reciprocal tariffs, and other trade restrictions—often with minimal notice—disrupting global trade and affecting a wide spectrum of raw materials, components, and finished goods. U.S.-China trade tensions, in particular, have intensified, resulting in elevated tariff rates and signaling the potential for further measures, including those targeting the semiconductor sector. In mid-May, the U.S. administration issued an executive order suspending certain previously announced tariff increases on China and temporarily reinstating a lower baseline tariff for a 90-day period. As of early August, the 90-day suspension is approaching its end, and the U.S. has imposed a 20% temporary tariff on most imports from Taiwan, effective August 7, 2025. The U.S. remains engaged in active tariff negotiations with key trading partners, including China and Taiwan, though the final outcomes of these negotiations remain uncertain. Although we have not been significantly impacted by the increased tariffs imposed on China to date, the continuation, escalation, or expansion of tariffs and other trade barriers—as well as heightened geopolitical tensions and increased uncertainty regarding global trade and regulatory policy, particularly involving the United States, China and Taiwan—could adversely affect our business both directly and indirectly, including through impacts on consumer and business confidence, currency and interest rate volatility, commodity and equity markets, inflation, financing conditions, and broader international economic relations. These developments could materially and adversely affect our revenue, operations, financial condition, cost structure, competitiveness, supply chain logistics, product pricing and demand, and profitability, and could also amplify other risks described in our 2024 Form 10-K. Although we seek to mitigate the effects of these challenges through pricing adjustments, supply chain diversification, and operational efficiencies, we may not be able to fully offset increased costs or secure timely alternative sources. In addition, customers may resist price increases or seek alternative suppliers, which could adversely affect our sales volumes.Q2, 2025
