Q1 2027 Earnings Call Summary

Q1 2027
Earnings Call Date:Oct 21, 2026|% Change Since:―|
Earnings Call Sentiment|Positive

The call was strongly positive. CACI reported solid revenue, earnings, margin, cash-flow, awards, backlog, and leverage performance; raised revenue and earnings guidance; and described broad-based demand across electronic warfare, counter-UAS, space, AI, and modernization. The principal challenges were sluggish award decision-making, continuing-resolution and budget uncertainty, supply-chain inflation and lead times, portfolio margin variability, seasonal first-quarter cash outflows, and a timing shift in some ARKA revenue. Management characterized these issues as incorporated into guidance or manageable, while maintaining confidence in continued growth and cash-flow generation.

Company Guidance

For fiscal 2027, CACI raised revenue guidance by $50 million to between $10.7 billion and $10.9 billion, with approximately $450 million of acquired revenue; reaffirmed EBITDA margin guidance in the high 12% range; increased adjusted net income guidance by $5 million to between $740 million and $760 million; raised adjusted diluted earnings per share guidance to between $33.18 and $34.08; and reaffirmed free cash flow guidance of at least $900 million. The company expects stronger organic growth and EBITDA margin in the second half of the fiscal year versus the first half, though the second half margin ramp is now more gradual, and said second quarter consensus estimates for organic growth and EBITDA margin are reasonable. It expects to return to leverage in the low threes in the March quarter of 27, with 94% of revenue from existing programs, 3% from recompetes, and 3% from new business.

  • Strong First-Quarter Financial PerformanceFiscal year 2027 first-quarter revenue grew 8% year over year, EBITDA margin reached 13.3%, adjusted diluted EPS increased 12%, and free cash flow was $133 million.
  • Margin Expansion and Operational ExecutionRevenue was $2.5 billion, up 8.2% year over year, including 2.1% organic growth. EBITDA margin was 13.3%, up 160 basis points from the prior-year quarter, driven by strong program execution and a more favorable mix of higher-margin work. Adjusted diluted EPS was $7.66, up 11.8% year over year.
  • Record Awards and Backlog GrowthCACI won $4.8 billion in first-quarter awards, producing a 2x book-to-bill ratio. Total backlog was $34 billion, while funded backlog increased 15% year over year, marking the seventh quarter with double-digit funded-backlog growth in the last eight quarters.
  • Raised Fiscal 2027 GuidanceThe company raised fiscal 2027 revenue guidance by $50 million to between $10.7 billion and $10.9 billion, increased adjusted net income guidance by $5 million to between $740 million and $760 million, and raised adjusted diluted EPS guidance to between $33.18 and $34.08. EBITDA margin guidance was reaffirmed in the high 12% range, and free cash flow guidance was reaffirmed at least $900 million.
  • Improved Revenue VisibilityCACI now expects 94% of fiscal 2027 revenue to come from existing programs, with 3% from recompetes and 3% from new business. This was up from 83% existing-business content the prior quarter and was described as the highest level at this point in the year in the last seven years.
  • Healthy Pipeline and Future BookingsThe company had $4.7 billion of bids under evaluation, approximately 85% of which represented new business, and expects to submit another $14.7 billion in bids over the next two quarters, with more than 60% from new business.
  • Major National Security AwardsCACI won the Apollo Award to support CENTCOM intelligence and information-warfare missions and won the five-year SOF-TOPS II follow-on contract supporting the Army's Special Operations Command.
  • Strong Counter-UAS and Electronic Warfare DemandThe company reported strong demand for its electronic-warfare portfolio and identified counter-UAS as a significant and growing opportunity. The $500 million Domestic Shield award included an initial funded task order, while demand was also increasing for SkyValor and BEAM counter-UAS systems from U.S. customers and allies in Europe and the Pacific theater.
  • Progress in Space and Optical TechnologiesCACI was selected by Vantor to supply advanced optical-imaging payloads for its Pulse satellite fleet, expects to complete SDA Tranche 1 deliveries later this calendar year and begin work on Tranche 2, and was one of three companies selected for phase three of the Space Force's Enterprise Space Terminal program. The company also cited classified optical-communications work and its contribution to the Artemis 2 mission.
  • ARKA Acquisition Performing as ExpectedManagement said ARKA was performing as expected and described it as one of CACI's greatest acquisitions. ARKA brings approximately $2 billion of work over the next three to five years tied to space-based payloads in the base budget, while the Vantor award demonstrates progress toward smaller optical payloads produced in higher quantities.
  • Investment in Manufacturing CapacityCACI opened a 61,000-square-foot defense-electronics manufacturing center of excellence in Rochester, New York, increasing capacity to develop, test, assemble, and deliver products including TLS Manpack and BEAM. The company plans additional manufacturing centers of excellence for space and integrated systems.
  • Continued Investment in Technology and ProductionManagement said it is investing ahead of customer need in software-defined technology, counter-UAS, space, optical communications, digital networks, and AI-enabled applications. The company is also investing to scale production capacity and expects these investments to support faster delivery, greater scale, continued revenue growth, and additional margin expansion.
  • AI-Enabled Modernization GrowthPrograms including Beagle, ITAS, and NASA NCAPPS are applying AI-based software and agile delivery methods to customer modernization. Management said leveraging AI reduces customer costs, improves CACI margins, and often leads customers to reinvest cost savings in additional scope.
  • Deleveraging Ahead of PlanPro forma leverage was 3.5x at the end of the first quarter, and the company now expects to return to leverage in the low threes in the March 2027 quarter, two quarters earlier than initially anticipated. Management attributed the progress to profitability and strong free cash flow generation.
  • Potential for Continued Modest Margin ImprovementManagement said it continues to see opportunities for continued modest margin improvement while maintaining its growth vector, supported by an opportunity-rich environment with opportunities to invest and grow.
  • Disciplined Fixed-Price Business GrowthFixed-price work increased from 27% to 33% of revenue, with approximately half of the six-point increase attributable to ARKA and the other half to organic growth in fixed-price activity. Management said CACI is disciplined in accepting fixed-price work and is comfortable with arrangements where technical risk is understood.
  • Recompete Risk MitigationSole-source extensions delayed a number of recompete processes, including Beagle and several classified programs. The remaining 3% of recompete content was described as approximately six to eight smaller programs, with no single large meaningful recompete remaining for the balance of the year.
  • Experienced Leadership and WorkforceCACI highlighted the integration of new leadership, including executives overseeing electronic warfare, operations, and manufacturing, and said the company has 27,000 employees. Management also cited approximately 1,400 people formerly deployed or embedded with customers as a source of mission knowledge.
  • Calendar-Year Fiscal TransitionCACI announced that it will move to a calendar fiscal year beginning January 1, 2027, to enhance investor comparability and better align reporting with the government's fiscal year. The company plans to provide new-year guidance with its December-quarter results in February and host an investor day in early 2027 with new three-year financial targets.
