Q3 2026 Earnings Call Summary
The call was strongly positive, led by record AUM, broad-based net inflows, substantial revenue and margin growth, capital returns, expanding portfolio solutions, and progress in Atlantic House, Ceres, AI, and onchain initiatives. The main challenges were the onchain business remaining in investment mode, mid-20s operating loss spending guidance for that business, lower European transaction and performance fees, narrowed guidance items, potential share dilution, and the stalled CLARITY Act. Highlights significantly outweighed lowlights.
Discretionary spending totaled $62.2 million year to date, and full-year guidance is updated to range from $83 million to $87 million; third-party distribution guidance is narrowed to $21 million-$23 million, with $16.5 million recognized year to date; interest income guidance is increased by $1 million to $9 million; fourth quarter diluted shares are expected to range from 154 million to 160 million shares, including incremental shares associated with convertible notes, assuming an average stock price of $21-$24 per share, although actual diluted shares may fall outside this range; all other elements of forward-looking guidance remain unchanged from last quarter, the onchain business is spending sort of the mid-20s from an operating loss standpoint, and third-party distribution fees are roughly 3% of total revenue with no material deviation expected going into next year.
- Record AUM and Seventh Consecutive Quarter of RecordsAssets under management reached a record $171 billion at quarter end, marking the seventh consecutive quarter of record AUM. Assets increased 5% from June 30, driven by strong net inflows and favorable market conditions, with all-time highs across the U.S., European, and onchain businesses.
- Broad-Based Net InflowsWisdomTree generated $4.6 billion of net inflows during the quarter, including $2.4 billion in the U.S., $1.7 billion in Europe, and $500 million from onchain. Year-to-date net inflows totaled $13.6 billion, representing an annualized organic growth rate of approximately 13%, with contributions across international equities, fixed income, commodities, and U.S. equities.
- Strong Revenue GrowthQuarterly revenues were $179.4 million, up 1% from the second quarter and up 43% from the prior-year quarter. Year-to-date revenue increased 49%, driven by higher AUM, elevated trading activity relative to prior periods, and contributions from the Ceres and Atlantic House acquisitions.
- Significant Margin ExpansionAdjusted operating margin was 43.1% for the quarter and 41.8% year to date, representing 750 basis points of expansion from the comparable prior-year period. Management attributed the improvement to strong revenue growth, operating leverage, acquisition contributions, expense discipline, and incremental margins north of 50%.
- Higher Adjusted Net IncomeAdjusted net income for the quarter was $49.5 million, or $0.32 per share.
- Capital Return and Debt SimplificationThe company retired the remaining $18 million principal amount of its 2029 convertible notes using cash and repurchased approximately $11 million of common stock during the quarter, representing roughly 500,000 shares.
- Portfolio Solutions GrowthModel AUA approached $10 billion. Management said the portfolio solutions business is growing well, with new advisor additions, deeper relationships with existing users, lower turnover, and stickier assets. Custom models in the U.S. were identified as a key recent growth driver.
- Atlantic House ExpansionWisdomTree launched its first two Atlantic House products in Europe and plans to launch 15-20 products over the next 18-24 months. Management said the acquisition expanded capabilities in sophisticated liquid alternatives and defined outcome solutions, added reach and tools to the models and solutions business, and integrated smoothly.
- Ceres Fund II PipelineCeres launched Fund II in mid-June and had a pipeline of more than $100 million of potential demand from over 100 investors in the mid to late stages.
- Measured AI Productivity GainsWisdomTree reported tracking more than 1,500 hours saved per month through AI initiatives in 2026, equivalent to at least 10 full-time employees. Management said the initiatives are intended to free employees for higher-impact activities rather than reduce headcount.
- Onchain Net Inflows and Platform DevelopmentThe onchain business contributed $500 million of net inflows during the quarter. WisdomTree consolidated its digital asset initiatives under the WisdomTree Onchain name, encompassing WisdomTree Prime, WisdomTree Connect, and Onchain Markets.
- Integrated Onchain InfrastructureWisdomTree has invested in and built its own tokenization platform, onchain transfer agent, broker-dealer, and regulated trust company. Management said the platform supports its own products and could potentially be offered to other firms as a service.
- WTGXX Product Functionality and DemandThe tokenized money market fund WTGXX offers trading around the clock seven days a week and continuous interest accrual. Management said demand is supported by use cases including stablecoin reserves, cash management, and collateral mobility.
- Onchain Distribution PartnershipsWisdomTree announced relationships with BitGo, MoonPay, Stable Sea, HashKey, Marketnode, and Synthesys, with the objective of making its products and infrastructure available through platforms where customers already conduct business. WisdomTree also joined a consortium of 21 global financial institutions developing a regulated U.S. dollar stablecoin.
- Constructive Regulatory EnvironmentManagement described the regulatory environment as constructive, citing the passage of the GENIUS Act, proposed SEC changes to Reg NMS, an innovation exemption for trading tokenized securities, and the OCC's final rule implementing the GENIUS Act.
- AI-Driven Investment Strategy PerformanceOne AI-driven long-short strategy using leverage was reported to have outperformed the market by more than 900 basis points so far this year.
- Efficient Operating ModelWisdomTree said it manages approximately $170 billion in assets with just 440 employees. Management highlighted its practice of insourcing strategic capabilities while outsourcing more commoditized activities.
- Planned Public-Private ETF OpportunityWisdomTree expects to bring private market allocations into the ETF wrapper in 2027. Management said the strategies are expected to be predominantly liquid with limited allocations to private assets, potentially including farmland and shares of private companies.
- Onchain Monetization OpportunitiesManagement identified fund expense ratios, broker-dealer services, and potential net interest income from greater stablecoin usage as three potential revenue sources for the onchain business. Management also said tokenization-as-a-service is under active discussion and could support a multi-issuer ecosystem.
- BitGo Distribution IntegrationThrough BitGo Mint, customers can access WTGXX directly within the BitGo environment rather than holding separate assets elsewhere. Management said the partnership is intended to make the fund easier to access within customers' existing workflows.
- Regulated Tokenized Fund ModelWisdomTree's model has funds issue shares directly onchain, with wallet holders registered as shareholders of the fund. Management said the model is supported by the SEC innovation exemption and is focused on convenient access and lower execution costs.
- Expense Moderation and ControlManagement said expenses were down and moderated somewhat during the quarter, citing summer seasonality, continued spending control, and further leverage in the compensation ratio.
- Third-Party Distribution EconomicsThird-party distribution fees represented roughly 3% of total revenue based on recent experience. Management said it expects no material deviation from this ratio going into 2027 and stated that platform fees are evaluated based on the value and asset growth they generate.
