Bulls Say, Bears Say
Bulls Say
Backlog VisibilityRapid backlog expansion provides a substantial base of contracted work that can convert into revenue over several years. This improves planning visibility, supports operating scale, and gives Ameresco a durable opportunity to compound growth beyond individual quarterly project awards.
Recurring Energy Services GrowthGrowth in energy assets and operations and maintenance services broadens Ameresco beyond project-based construction revenue. A growing installed base and multi-year service backlog can produce more recurring income, deepen customer relationships, and improve revenue durability over time.
Revenue And EBITDA ExpansionRevenue and adjusted EBITDA growth indicate that Ameresco is expanding while retaining operating leverage in its project portfolio. Continued scale, supported by demand for energy infrastructure, can strengthen earnings capacity if execution and favorable project mix are sustained.
Bears Say
Weak Cash ConversionPersistently negative operating and free cash flow means reported profits are not consistently converting into liquidity. Working-capital and project billing timing can require external funding, limiting financial flexibility and increasing the execution risk attached to Ameresco’s growth plans.
Leverage And Margin PressureElevated leverage combined with thin profitability leaves less room to absorb project delays, cost pressure, or weaker returns. Higher debt also increases financial obligations, while reduced margins make earnings more sensitive to execution quality and changes in project economics.
Delayed Data Center MonetizationLarge data center awards do not translate quickly into revenue because contracting and construction occur over extended timelines. The long conversion period leaves growth dependent on permitting, interconnection, equipment availability, and successful execution before the backlog becomes meaningful sales.

Company Description
Ameresco
Ameresco, Inc. operates as a clean technology integrator, offering a broad spectrum of solutions focused on energy efficiency and sustainable energy generation across the United States, Canada, and global markets. The company serves diverse businesses and organizations by implementing strategies for enhanced energy efficiency, critical infrastructure improvements, bolstered energy security and resilience, improved asset longevity, and the deployment of renewable energy systems. Its operations are structured into distinct segments: U.S. Regions, U.S. Federal, Canada, and Non-Solar Distributed Generation. Ameresco specializes in the conceptualization, development, engineering, and installation of projects specifically designed to lower energy consumption and decrease operational and maintenance (O&M) expenses for client facilities. Additionally, Ameresco delivers comprehensive renewable energy services. This encompasses building small-scale power generation facilities, either owned directly by the company or constructed for clients, to produce electricity, gas, heat, or cooling from sustainable sources. They also provide ongoing operations and maintenance for these plants and market the generated renewable electricity, processed gas fuel, or thermal energy. Beyond this, the company distributes photovoltaic (PV) solar products and integrated systems, offers specialized consulting, and provides enterprise-level energy management solutions. Notably, Ameresco also owns and manages a wind power facility situated in Ireland. Its broad client base includes federal, state, and local governmental bodies, healthcare organizations, educational establishments, airports, public housing entities, universities, and a wide spectrum of commercial and industrial clients. By the close of 2021, specifically December 31st, Ameresco's portfolio featured 147 wholly-owned and operated small-scale renewable energy facilities and solar photovoltaic installations. AMRC Earnings Call
Q2 2026
0:00 / 0:00
Earnings Call Sentiment|Positive
The call conveyed a largely positive outlook driven by record awards, substantial backlog growth, improved margins, growing energy asset and O&M businesses, and strengthened capital via the Neogenyx JV. The company acknowledged near-term cash conversion and working capital timing pressures, modest GAAP profitability impacted by asset growth and transaction-related non-controlling interests, and execution risks tied to permitting, supply chain, and project timelines for large data center opportunities. Overall, the upside from robust awards, diversified recurring revenue streams, and financing support outweigh the near-term operational and timing challenges.View all AMRC earnings summariesAMRC Stock 12 Month Forecast
