Bulls Say, Bears Say
Bulls Say
Backlog VisibilityThe sharp expansion in awarded and total backlog provides a multi-year revenue base and reduces reliance on winning immediately new work. Management expects awarded backlog to convert over three to four years, supporting planning, resource utilization, and longer-term growth visibility.
Recurring Services GrowthGrowth in operations and maintenance expands Ameresco’s recurring revenue mix beyond project delivery. A substantial multi-year service backlog and broad installed-base coverage can support customer retention, utilization of technical capabilities, and steadier revenue over the next several years.
Energy Infrastructure PositionThe growing portfolio of operating, developing, and construction-stage energy assets strengthens Ameresco’s role across distributed energy and renewable infrastructure. It also broadens earnings sources through asset-related activity while building a platform for additional operations and maintenance revenue.
Bears Say
Weak Cash ConversionPersistently negative operating and free cash flow indicates that reported profits are not consistently converting into liquidity. Project execution, billing, and collection timing can require funding before customer payments arrive, increasing dependence on financing and limiting flexibility for future investment.
Elevated Leverage And Thin ReturnsLeverage remains high for a project-driven business even after improving from 2025, while the lower return on equity points to weaker capital efficiency. Debt and asset growth can increase financial commitments and interest sensitivity, leaving less room for execution setbacks.
Large-project Execution RiskAmeresco’s data-center opportunity is strategically important, but conversion depends on several external approvals and infrastructure steps. Unplaced equipment orders and permitting or interconnection hurdles could delay implementation, defer revenue, and increase execution complexity on large projects.

Company Description
Ameresco
Ameresco, Inc. operates as a clean technology integrator, offering a broad spectrum of solutions focused on energy efficiency and sustainable energy generation across the United States, Canada, and global markets. The company serves diverse businesses and organizations by implementing strategies for enhanced energy efficiency, critical infrastructure improvements, bolstered energy security and resilience, improved asset longevity, and the deployment of renewable energy systems. Its operations are structured into distinct segments: U.S. Regions, U.S. Federal, Canada, and Non-Solar Distributed Generation. Ameresco specializes in the conceptualization, development, engineering, and installation of projects specifically designed to lower energy consumption and decrease operational and maintenance (O&M) expenses for client facilities. Additionally, Ameresco delivers comprehensive renewable energy services. This encompasses building small-scale power generation facilities, either owned directly by the company or constructed for clients, to produce electricity, gas, heat, or cooling from sustainable sources. They also provide ongoing operations and maintenance for these plants and market the generated renewable electricity, processed gas fuel, or thermal energy. Beyond this, the company distributes photovoltaic (PV) solar products and integrated systems, offers specialized consulting, and provides enterprise-level energy management solutions. Notably, Ameresco also owns and manages a wind power facility situated in Ireland. Its broad client base includes federal, state, and local governmental bodies, healthcare organizations, educational establishments, airports, public housing entities, universities, and a wide spectrum of commercial and industrial clients. By the close of 2021, specifically December 31st, Ameresco's portfolio featured 147 wholly-owned and operated small-scale renewable energy facilities and solar photovoltaic installations. Founded in 2000, Ameresco, Inc. maintains its corporate headquarters in Framingham, Massachusetts.

AMRC Earnings Call
Q2 2026
0:00 / 0:00
Earnings Call Sentiment|Positive
The call conveyed a largely positive outlook driven by record awards, substantial backlog growth, improved margins, growing energy asset and O&M businesses, and strengthened capital via the Neogenyx JV. The company acknowledged near-term cash conversion and working capital timing pressures, modest GAAP profitability impacted by asset growth and transaction-related non-controlling interests, and execution risks tied to permitting, supply chain, and project timelines for large data center opportunities. Overall, the upside from robust awards, diversified recurring revenue streams, and financing support outweigh the near-term operational and timing challenges.View all AMRC earnings summariesAMRC Stock 12 Month Forecast
