Bulls Say, Bears Say

Bulls Say
Operating Margin StrengthHigh operating (~38%) and EBITDA (~49%) margins reflect durable operating leverage in hotel operations. Sustained margins indicate efficient cost structure and pricing power across properties, supporting long-term profitability resilience through cycles and enabling reinvestment in brands and service standards.
Recovered Revenue ScaleRevenue recovery to ~2.24B shows restored demand and scale across Shangri-La’s portfolio. Scale supports diversified revenue from rooms, F&B and events, reducing single-market sensitivity and underpinning steady top-line that sustains fixed-cost absorption and long-run competitiveness.
Positive Cash Generation TrendConsistent positive operating and free cash flow in 2023–2025 demonstrates a recovery in cash generation versus earlier losses. Even if conversion is weak, sustained positive cash enables servicing obligations, funding maintenance capex and selective investment in assets and brands over the medium term.
Bears Say
Elevated LeverageElevated and rising leverage (debt ~7.61B; debt/equity ~1.43) constrains financial flexibility. High fixed obligations increase sensitivity to occupancy or rate shocks, limit capacity for opportunistic investment or dividend resilience, and raises refinancing risk across economic cycles.
Weak Cash ConversionLow cash conversion (operating cash flow coverage ~0.10) and modest, volatile FCF (~92M in 2025) mean accounting profits don’t fully translate to cash. This undermines sustained deleveraging, constrains capital expenditure flexibility, and heightens reliance on external financing for growth or recovery.
Weak Net Returns To EquityDeclining net margin and low ROE (~2.1%) show limited returns on the company’s capital base despite operating recovery. Persistent low profitability after costs and interest reduces shareholders' long-term value creation potential and leaves less room for reserves against cyclicality.
