Bulls Say, Bears Say
Bulls Say
Record Backlog & Raised GuidanceA record $48.5B backlog and ~1.6x book-to-bill give durable multi-year revenue visibility across transmission, generation and large-load programs. Raised 2026 guidance reflects broad-based demand, improving planning for capacity, workforce and long-lead procurement.
Strong Cash GenerationRobust absolute operating cash flow and material free cash flow generation provide lasting internal funding for capex, buybacks and selective M&A. High FCF coverage of earnings enhances resilience to project timing variability and lowers reliance on external financing.
Significantly Improved Balance SheetDramatically lower leverage and a strong equity base enhance financial flexibility to fund strategic investments and maintain an investment‑grade profile through cycles. Low debt reduces refinancing and liquidity risk for a capital‑intensive, project-driven business.
Bears Say
Thin Profit MarginsMargins are modest and have not meaningfully expanded, which limits downside protection in an engineering & construction business. Narrow margins amplify the effect of cost overruns, fixed‑price contract exposure and adverse project mix on long‑term earnings stability.
Supply‑Chain & Permitting Execution RisksStructural bottlenecks—long equipment lead times and complex interconnection/permitting—can delay project completion and cash receipts. Even with onshore manufacturing investments, these execution constraints pose lasting timing and margin risks across multi-year utility programs.
Near-Term Cash Intensity From Capacity BuildManagement kept FCF guidance unchanged while committing significant capital to reduce supply‑chain risk. That higher near‑term capex and working‑capital timing increase capital intensity and create execution risk that could compress free cash flow despite stronger reported earnings.
