Bulls Say, Bears Say
Bulls Say
Strong LiquidityIGO’s large cash balance and an undrawn AUD 300m facility give durable financial flexibility. This liquidity supports capital discipline, funds near-term operations and JV obligations, and buffers commodity cyclicality, reducing short‑term refinancing and solvency risk while management fixes operations.
Improved Nova OperationsOperational stability and lower costs at Nova materially improve sustainable cash generation from an owned asset. As Nova approaches end‑of‑life, stronger operating cash flow supports corporate liquidity, limits reliance on external financing and demonstrates management’s ability to extract value from core mines.
Reserve/Resource Optimization UpsideReserve/resource optimization at Greenbushes meaningfully improves mine economics by lowering strip ratios and adding metal at surface. That raises long‑term optionality for sustained production, supports downstream processing plans and enhances the asset base for future capacity expansions or life‑extension decisions.
Bears Say
Declining RevenueA >30% revenue drop reflects weaker commodity prices, lower volumes and Forrestania being offline. Reduced scale makes it harder to cover fixed and processing costs, compresses margins and limits internal cash available for sustaining and growth capital, raising strategic pressure over the medium term.
Underlying Net LossPersistent underlying losses signal that operating improvements haven’t yet restored profitability. Continued net losses erode retained earnings, constrain reinvestment capacity and make the company more dependent on asset sales, JV distributions or financing to fund growth and maintain liquidity over coming quarters.
Kwinana Underperformance & ImpairmentA fully impaired, loss‑making Kwinana asset reduces the company’s productive base and creates execution and partner‑resolution risk with Tianqi. Asset underperformance and impairments are lasting negatives that lower future cash generation and may necessitate further write‑downs or capital reallocation.
