Bulls Say, Bears Say
Bulls Say
Manageable LeverageDebt is moderate relative to equity and has improved from 2023–2024 levels, giving Skanska a stronger buffer in a cyclical, working-capital-intensive business. This supports resilience and preserves capacity to fund projects or absorb operating variability.
Cash ConversionTTM operating cash flow of ~11.5B and free cash flow of ~5.0B show meaningful current cash generation. FCF exceeding net income indicates earnings are converting into cash, supporting reinvestment, dividends, and financial flexibility.
Positive ProfitabilityTTM profitability remains positive and stable, with net margin near 3.3%, operating margin near 4.2%, and ROE around 9.6%. Maintaining returns despite project complexity provides an ongoing earnings base, even though performance is below earlier peaks.
Bears Say
Volatile Free Cash FlowFree cash flow declined about 28.6% year over year and has been volatile, including negative FCF in 2022 and very weak FCF in 2023. Such swings can complicate funding, dividend planning, and investment timing because project working capital varies.
Thin MarginsNet and operating margins remain in the low single digits and below the materially stronger 2021–2022 levels. This leaves less room for cost overruns or adverse project mix, making sustained profit improvement dependent on disciplined execution and pricing.
Limited Revenue GrowthTTM revenue growth is only about 1.1%, indicating limited top-line expansion in the latest period. Low growth can constrain operating leverage and make future earnings increasingly dependent on project selection, execution, and margin recovery rather than broad revenue momentum.
