Bulls Say, Bears Say
Bulls Say
Debt-free Balance SheetThe company’s essentially debt-free balance sheet provides substantial financial flexibility and limits interest or refinancing pressure. A large equity base relative to assets also gives HM1 capacity to maintain its investment strategy through weaker periods without relying heavily on borrowed capital.
Recent ProfitabilityStrong recent operating profitability and a roughly 54% net margin indicate meaningful earnings power in the latest annual period. If this level of profitability remains supported by portfolio performance, it can strengthen retained capital and support the company’s long-term investment objectives.
Focused Investment ModelThe actively managed listed-equity structure gives shareholders diversified exposure through a dedicated investment vehicle rather than requiring direct security selection. Its explicit long-term capital-growth focus supports a coherent operating model centered on portfolio management and investment performance.
Bears Say
Inconsistent Cash ConversionNegative operating and free cash flow across the latest three years weakens confidence that reported profits are consistently converting into cash. Persistent divergence between earnings and cash generation can increase funding variability and make it harder to assess the durability of underlying financial performance.
Revenue VolatilityThe sharp reversal from exceptional 2025 growth to a roughly 23% revenue decline in 2026 demonstrates material top-line volatility. Such swings make performance less predictable, complicate planning, and reduce confidence that the latest period’s profitability represents a stable earnings trajectory.
Uneven Historical PerformanceLoss-making and negative-revenue periods in 2021–2022, together with changing returns on equity, show that results can weaken materially across the cycle. This uneven history suggests recent strength is not yet a consistently demonstrated earnings base and warrants caution about long-term compounding.
