Bulls Say, Bears Say
Bulls Say
Low Financial LeverageThe absence of reported debt reduces interest costs and near-term solvency pressure. This gives 88 Energy more flexibility to fund exploration, pursue partners, or monetise assets without servicing a substantial debt burden.
Alaskan Exploration OptionalityA focused North Slope portfolio provides exposure to potential hydrocarbon discoveries and future development value. Successful exploration could support farm-outs, joint ventures, asset sales, or project advancement beyond the current exploration stage.
Improved Free Cash Flow TrendThe sharp year-on-year improvement indicates some progress in cash management or spending control. While cash generation is not yet sustainable, continued improvement could extend the funding runway and reduce dependence on external capital.
Bears Say
No Meaningful Revenue BaseThe lack of recurring operating revenue leaves the company dependent on discoveries, asset transactions, partner funding, or equity issuance. This makes earnings quality weak and limits visibility into self-funded exploration and development.
Persistent Cash BurnOngoing operating and free cash outflows indicate that exploration and corporate costs are not being funded internally. Continued cash burn may require financing or asset sales, creating execution risk and potential pressure on future capital availability.
Shrinking Equity CushionA materially smaller equity base reduces the company’s financial cushion against further exploration losses and unsuccessful wells. If external funding remains necessary, future equity issuance could dilute existing holders and constrain strategic flexibility.
