Through the fiscal year, U.S. tariff revenue has now reached $183 billion compared to $86.5 billion year-over-year.

Trump Defends Tariffs Amid Record Tariff Revenue

The rise in revenue comes as President Trump fights to keep his tariffs in place. On Tuesday, he said that he would seek an “expedited ruling” with the Supreme Court after a federal appeals court ruled that the tariffs overstepped his legal authority. “If you take away tariffs, we could end up being a third-world country,” warned Trump.

The tariffs, imposed under a 1977 emergency law, have helped generate record revenue for the U.S. this year. On the other hand, some economists argue that keeping them in place could further strain global trade relations and contribute to a revival in inflation.
