The Trump administration is eyeing thousands of federal job cuts as the government shutdown enters its second day. Last week, the Office of Management and Budget (OMB) warned that the shutdown could be used as an opportunity to slash funding for programs that are “not consistent with the President’s priorities.”

“It’s likely going to be in the thousands,” said White House press secretary Karoline Leavitt on Thursday in a reference to layoffs. Leavitt added that the “entire team at the White House” is working to review areas to cut.
Trump to Meet with White House Budget Chief
On Thursday, Trump said in a Truth Social post that he would meet with OMB Director Russ Vought “to determine which of the many Democrat Agencies, most of which are a political SCAM, he recommends to be cut, and whether or not those cuts will be temporary or permanent.”
According to The Council of Economic Advisers, a government shutdown typically results in over 1.9 million federal employees who face either furloughs or untimely payments. In addition, 43,000 workers could lose their jobs for each week of the shutdown, according to Goldman Sachs.
