Trump Targets Filibuster, Aims to ‘Take Advantage of the Democrats’
The filibuster is a Senate rule that requires most resolutions to receive 60 votes in order to pass, benefiting the minority party. Eliminating the filibuster would allow legislation to pass with a simple majority in a Republican-controlled Senate and could boost the odds of the government reopening.
Trump added that former President Barack Obama and former Majority Leader Harry Reid tried to get rid of the filibuster in order to take advantage of Republicans. “Now I want to do it in order to take advantage of the Democrats,” Trump said.
