“Only one party that’s involved in this war is going to be present, and so this is for the president to go and to get, again, a more firm and better understanding of how we can hopefully bring this war to an end,” Leavitt said.

Trump Issues Warning Against Russia

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy isn’t expected to attend the event, although it appears that Trump will still try to push for a ceasefire. On Wednesday, Trump said that Russia will face “very severe consequences” if it continues attacking Ukraine after the Friday meeting.

Trump had previously threatened 100% secondary tariffs on Moscow, although the punishment was never implemented. He also floated the idea of Ukraine ceding land to Russia in order to secure a ceasefire. Zelenskyy countered the idea, noting that Ukraine’s constitution forbids such a transaction.
