Sources close to the matter said that the orders could include allowing AI data centers to be constructed on federal land and easier grid access for new energy projects.
AI Requires Massive Energy Resources
The process of training and utilizing AI has strained energy resources across the country. Following an average U.S. electricity demand growth rate of just 0.1% between 2005 and 2020, demand is expected to grow by 1.7% between 2020 and 2026, according to the U.S. Energy Information Administration.
By 2035, consulting firm Deloitte says that energy demand from AI data centers could grow by more than 30x. That would require vast improvements to electrical infrastructure and government support.
