Trump Narrows Powell’s Successor to ‘3 or 4 Names’

The race to replace Fed Chair Jerome Powell once his term expires in May 2026 has been narrowed down to “three or four names,” Trump said on Wednesday at The Kennedy Center. He added that his pick will probably be announced “a little bit early.”

Trump also continued to bash Powell, saying “He turned out to be a stiff, you know, a real stiff. But other than that, I think he’s doing a very good job.”

Trump’s Top Candidates for Fed Chair

Fed Governor Christopher Waller is the top contender to be selected by Trump before December 31, with 23% odds, according to prediction platform Polymarket. Former Fed Governor Kevin Warsh and National Economic Council Director Kevin Hassett trail behind, both with odds of 11%. At the same time, the odds of Trump not making a selection by December 31 sit at 28%.
