“This isn’t only the end of a war, this is the end of an age of terror and death,” Trump said. “This is the historic dawn of a new Middle East.”
Earlier this month, Trump issued a 20-point peace plan to end the war in Gaza, which included the release of hostages from both sides and a governance and economic development plan for the area.
Trump Touches Down in Egypt for Gaza Peace Summit
Following his speech, Trump touched down in Egypt to meet with several world leaders, including French President Emmanuel Macron and German Chancellor Friedrich Merz, to discuss Gaza’s future. Trump noted that “phase two” of the Gaza peace plan has begun, which outlines the disarmament of Hamas and the creation of a temporary government for Gaza.
“The phases are all a little bit mixed in with each other,” Trump said. “You look at Gaza, it needs a lot of clean up.”
Israel and Hamas are still negotiating the terms of the peace pact, with both sides seeking guarantees on the governance and reconstruction of Gaza.
