President Trump met with Mark Carney, Canada’s newly-elected prime minister, today. While a senior Canadian official characterized the meeting as “constructive,” the two sides didn’t make any progress on a potential trade deal.

Carney added that while both the US and Canada would like to ink a deal, the situation is “very complex.” During the meeting, Carney emphasized that Canada is not for sale.
Speaking after the meeting, the prime minister added that he and Trump agreed to speak again in the coming weeks.
The meeting failed to have any significant market impact, with the S&P 500 set to finish the day in the red.
