WPP (WPP) CEO Mark Read detailed a fraud attempt in a recent email to leadership, warning others to look out for calls claiming to be from top executives, Nick Robins-Early of The Guardian reports. The fraudsters created a WhatsApp account with a publicly available image of Reed and used that to create a Micrsoft (MSFT) Teams meeting that appeared to be run by him and another WPP executive, according to the email viewed by The Guardian. The imposters deployed a voice clone as well as YouTube video footage of Reed and impersonated Reed in the meeting’s chat window. The scam targeted an “agency leader,” wanting them to set up a new business to solicit money and personal details.
