Warner Bros. Discovery (WBD) thought it had given the National Basketball Association, N.B.A, a proposal it would accept, but, with the end of the company’s exclusive negotiating window looming, the N.B.A. insisted on changing the package of games the company would receive, Tania Ganguli, Kevin Draper, and Nicole Sperling of The New York Times reports, citing two people familiar with the negotiations. Warner Bros. balked at the change, and while the two sides have continued negotiating, the company is now on the verge of losing the rights to televise the sport. Disney’s (DIS) EPSN exited its exclusive negotiating period with a handshake agreement. Amazon (AMZN) and NBC (CMCSA), meanwhile, have swooped in and are negotiating with the N.B.A. for packages made up of the games currently belonging to Warner Bros. as well as additional assets, three people familiar with the matter told the Times.
