A fire erupted at Vistra’s (VST) Moss Landing Power Plant in Central California around 3 pm yesterday and evacuation orders were issued around 6:30 pm due to concerns over hazardous materials and potential chemical releases, Hanna Park of CNN reports, citing officials. The incident is not connected to the wildfires in the Los Angeles area, and efforts to contain the blaze are ongoing, a spokesperson for the Monterey County Sheriff’s Office confirmed. More than 2,000 people were told to evacuate, the spokesperson said. Shares of Vistra are down 6%, or $10.50, to $163.50 in premarket trading.
