Sony (SONY) said its PlayStation business has canceled previously unannounced video games at two of its top development studios, Bloomberg’s Jason Schreier and Christopher Palmeri report, citing a spokesperson. The games, which were being developed by “Days Gone” maker Bend and “Demon’s Souls” remake studio Bluepoint Games, were both live service projects designed to generate recurring revenue, the authors say, noting that such games were part of an ongoing strategy at PlayStation that has led to mixed results. Sony did not say whether the cancellations will result in studio closures or job cuts, the authors note. Jason Schreier reported subsequently in a post on Bluesky that Bluepoint was working on a live-service “God of War” game.
