Sega and Creative Assembly’s recently-cancelled live service video game “Hyenas” may have been the “Sonic the Hedgehog” publisher’s most expensive game ever prior to its cancellation, VideoGamesChronicle’s Andy Robinson reports. Anonymous developers have claims that a lack of direction, disruptive engine change, and overly-cautious design contributed to Sega pulling the plug on the game, the author says, citing sources. Former developers also told VGC they believe “Hyenas” was Sega’s biggest budget ever for a game, beating 1999 Dreamcast role-playing game “Shenmue,” which was once claimed to have cost roughly $70M to make, the author notes.
