Reddit (RDDT) is racing to protect its online communities from a surge of AI-generated content, with the authenticity of the human interactions on its platform increasingly valuable to new-AI powered search tools, Daniel Thomas and Hannah Murphy of The Financial Times reports. CEO Steve Huffman told the Times that Reddit had, “20 years of conversation about everything,” positioning the company with a lucrative resource of personal interaction, which has helped the company enter several multimillion-dollar partnerships. Now, Huffman is working to ensure AI content stays off the platform. “Where the rest of the internet seems to be powered by or written by or summarised by AI, Reddit is distinctly human,” Huffman told the Times.
