PG&E works to confront uptick in fires ignited by its power lines, WSJ says

PG&E is working to confront an uptick in fires ignited by its power lines ahead of the riskier months of the wildfire season, Katherine Blunt of The Wall Street Journal reports. The company has reported 62 ignitions to state regulations in high-threat fire areas so far this year, compared to 65 for all of 2023, according to company executives. Last month, the company established a task force to evaluate the problem and determine what could be done ahead of fall. Since then, the company has been working to clear vegetation beneath about 50,000 utility poles and install equipment for better monitor power line disruptions.
