OpenAI, the research lab behind the ChatGPT chatbot, is in discussions to sell existing shares in a tender offer that would value the startup at roughly $29B, the Wall Street Journal’s Berber Jin and Miles Kruppa report, citing people familiar with the matter. Venture capital firms Thrive Capital and Founders Fund are in discussions to invest in the tender offer, which would total no less than $300M in shares sales, the authors note. The Fly notes that Microsoft (MSFT) is an investor in OpenAI and that ChatGPT is said to be a threat to Google (GOOGL) search. Reference Link
